STAR Strategy

This document is an anchor chart illustrating the STAR Writing Strategy, a four-step framework designed to help students construct clear, text-dependent responses. The acronym STAR guides the structure of a paragraph, which begins with S: Set Up, where the writer introduces the topic or main idea. This is followed by T: Text Evidence, which requires including a direct quote or example from the text to support the point. Next, A: Analyze instructs the writer to explain how the evidence proves or supports the main idea. Finally, R: Restate concludes the paragraph by summarizing the main point or argument in a fresh way. The strategy ensures that the response is both focused on an argument and grounded in textual proof.
